Windows Store for Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 has reached a new milestone for the apps where over 585,000 apps are available for users to download.
According to the official ‘Microsoft by the Numbers’ website, there are over 585,000 apps available in the Windows Store for PC and Phone combined. Windows Store on PC holds 200,000 apps whereas, the Store for Phone has 385,000 apps available.
It is to be noted that according to the same site, Windows Store had 560,000 apps in Store on January 13, 2015 which means that only 25,000 apps were published in 49-days.
This increase in app inventory seems to be very slow and in the current rate of increase, Microsoft might not be able to reach the app number of Apple’s App Store and Android’s Play Store where they already have more than 800K apps available with hundreds and thousands being added on daily-basis.
Additionally, it is to be noted that this 585,000 app number doesn’t mean that all of them are unique ones instead, there are hundreds of apps with same functionality but, different names resulting in more number but, less user experience.
Microsoft is aiming to combine the overall user experience of Window Store and Windows Phone Store where the same apps called Universal Apps will be available on both platform. Universal apps might decrease the app-gap between Windows and its competitors since developers only have to combine the app once and it will run on both platforms but, for that we will have to wait for the official public launch of Windows 10 for PC and Phone where the Universal App experience will be implemented.
So, which apps are your favorites in Store?
