Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 (GDR 1) is now available for devices running the Windows Phone Developer Preview and it can be downloaded right now on any Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 Preview device.
Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 brings a couple of new and exciting features like Live App Folders on Start Screen which lets you create app folders where you can move apps within the folder and the tiles will still show live tiles. Live App Folders show live tiles from the apps and creating live app folders is very easy and takes seconds.
Simply follow the instructions below and you will be able to create Live App Folders on Start Screen and move apps within it.
Considering you have installed the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, you can move any app tile on top of another and you will be able to create a App Folder.
First of all, tap and hold the tile of an app which you want to move to folder. After keeping it pressed for ~5 seconds, your customization will be enabled.
Here move an app tile on top of another which will create a folder and the folder will expand. You will be able to see the apps in the folder. You can move as many apps as you like in the folder.
- The apps within the app will still show live tiles and the folder will also show live tile updates from the apps inside.
That’s all! Your Live App Folder has been created.
Resize apps within the folder:
You can also resize the apps within a folder easily by long tapping and then pressing the resize button. All three sizes of apps are available within a folder.
Resize App Folder:
You can also resize the app folder to your desired size by long tapping the folder and resizing it by pressing the resize button.
Expand the Folder to see apps in it:
You can always expand a folder by tapping it which will expand it and show all the apps in the folder.
Name your Folder:
You can also name your folder by long pressing the folder tile and then, expanding the tile. You will get the title option on top left corner of folder (Refer the screenshot below). Here you can name your folder anything you want.
Tip: You might have to long press the top border line of Live App Folder to enable rename option.
