Windows 8/8.1 gains 0.69% worldwide market share in February 2015 with Windows 7 still rising


The latest market share statistics of desktop PC’s is here and Windows 8.1 has gained fraction with Windows 8 decreasing. Whereas, the popular Windows 7 has gained a small fraction of share with Windows XP is still on the rise.


According to the latest statistics by Net Market Share, Windows 8.1 has gained market share in the worldwide PC usage. Windows XP has also increased with Mac OX X 10.10 and Windows 7 still increasing its lead.

Windows 8 holds a total share of 3.55% which has decreased from 3.79% for the month of January 2014. Windows 8.1 has gained 0.45% of global market share increasing from 10.04% to 10.49% in over a month.

Windows 7, the most popular desktop OS in the world has gained a small fraction of share by increasing from 55.92% to 55.99%. It seems Windows 7 is still increasing its lead by becoming one of the most popular Windows OS version ever.

Windows XP, which was once the most popular used OS before Windows 7 took its lead is still being used by 19.15% of users around the world despite the end of support by Microsoft in March 2014. Windows XP has increased from 18.93% in over a month.

Coming to the other Windows versions, Windows Vista has decreased from 2.44% to 2.11% which seems legit as Vista users can upgrade to Windows 7 easily.

Windows 10, which is still in its early stages of beta as Windows 10 Technical Preview holds 0.08% of global market share despite having over 2.5-millions Windows Insiders who are testing Windows 10.

Coming to other top OS in the market, Mac OS X 10.10 has 0.10% of share with the Mac OS X 10.9 decreasing from 1.82% to 1.65% in just a month. Linux holds 1.53% of share with Windows NT having 0.11%.
