Windows 8 and 8.1 gets a combined increase of .089% in market share with XP still ahead


Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 has got an increase in the total market share for the month of August 2014. Windows 8 and its free update, Windows 8.1’s market share has increased by 0.89% in just a month. Windows 7 is still the most popular OS with half of the market share globally while XP still trailing behind with 23.89% of total market share.


According to the latest statistics by NetApplications, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 has got an increase in the market share during the month of August 2014 as compared to July 2014 with Windows 7 still remaining the market leader followed by Windows XP.

Windows 8 has got the total market share of 6.28% with increase from 5.92% whereas, Windows 8.1 also has got 7.09% market share with an increase from 6.56%. Overall, they have got a combined increase of 0.89%

Coming to the most-popular OS in the market, Windows 7’s market share remains almost same with a drop of just 0.01% in a month. Whereas, Windows XP is still very popular in the market which still remains the second widely used OS with a market share of 23.89% which has dropped from 24.82% despite the drop of support by Microsoft in April this year. Vista is also slowly fading with a decrease from 3.05% to 3.02%.

Coming to OS other than Windows, Mac OS X 10.9 holds 4.29% of market share whereas, Linus has a market share of just 1.67%.
