Windows 8.1 build 9471 which is considered a close-to-final build made its way onto the web a few days ago. The new build includes many new features and improvements as compared to the public preview of Windows 8.1 which was released for public on June 26.

Windows 8.1 Start Screen

Although the build is an internal preview which is full of bugs but, it still carries a couple of promising features. So, we decided to download and install it on our test PC to find out what Microsoft has been working on since the Preview version of Windows 8.1.

Here are a couple of features which has been either updated or are new in the build 9741 of Windows 8.1:

  • New Start Screen Backgrounds with interactive animated images (one example can be found in the screenshot above)
  • New pre-installed apps like Skype
  • Updated pre-installed apps like Mail, People and Xbox Videos etc. (find out more about that in later articles)
  • Improved PC Settings app with some new options and sections
  • Ability to change SkyDrive folder on desktop
  • Ability to control more sync settings
  • Ability to opt whether to save, restore backups to SkyDrive or not
  • Improved search experience which is faster now

We decided to capture a video of Windows 8.1 build 9741 to highlight the new and improved features of this build of Windows 8.1. Check out the video after the break which will take you through all the new features of Windows 8.1.

You would be able to get all these features along with some more in Windows 8.1 RTM when it is released for public on October 18, 2013.
