Microsoft previously announced that the Windows 10 upgrade will be offered for free to all Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users and now, Microsoft has shared more details about this offer. The upgrade to Windows 10 will be free but, you won’t be able to get a legitimate version of Windows 10 if you upgrade from pirated Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1.
Microsoft’s Operating System Division head, Terry Myerson has revealed that the free Windows 10 upgrade offer is available for all Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users whether they are running a legitimate version of Windows or a pirated one.
Users who are running a legitimate version of Windows will get the fully activated and legitimate version of Windows 10 if they decide to upgrade but, users running pirated Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 will be upgraded but, they still will have the pirated Windows 10.
Users who are running pirated Windows 10 will also see a watermark on the desktop which will tell them that their Windows version is not legitimate and activated.
Additionally, Microsoft has also shared that if you buy a Windows device which has the activation watermark on desktop then, you should return that device as that device is running a non-legitimate version of Windows.
On the other hand, Microsoft has also announced that all Windows Insiders testing the Previews of Windows 10 will also get the Windows 10 Upgrade for free upon launch.
So, will you upgrade your Windows version to Windows 10 once it is launched later this year?
