Microsoft has reportedly started the work on the third feature update for Windows 8.1 named Windows 8.1 Update 3 which might be released for public in late-2014 if, Microsoft decides to release it.
Microsoft has already detailed the features of Windows 8.1’s second update which the software giant is saying to be just normal Patch Tuesday update without any major features or changes. Unlike Windows 8.1 Update 1, the Update 2 was scrapped in favor of Windows 9 aka Threshold which is scheduled to be released as a preview in late-2014.
Microsoft won’t be adding any new features in Windows 8.1 Update 2 once it is released on August 12, 2014 but, new reports claim that development on the Windows 8.1 Update 3 is also starting internally on Microsoft.
Although, Microsoft has stopped adding new features in Windows 8.1 including the Start Menu which will now be included in Threshold instead, of being added to Windows 8.1 Update.
Mary Jo Foley on Twitter said that the ‘Update 3’ might be released for public and other sources claim that the work on the update has already started, internally. But, there is still not clarification whether the Update 3 will eventually see the daylight and will be released for public or it will remain an internal update.
Other speculations say that Microsoft may have started the work on Windows 8.1 Update 3 but, the software giant might not release it for public. Instead, the features of Windows 8.1 Update 3 will be added in the Threshold.
Microsoft may decide to launch the Windows 8.1 Update 3 later this year along with the preview of ‘Threshold’ in late 2014 but, we will have to wait for its official announcement from Microsoft.
