Ever wanted to hide a specific hard drive from ‘Explorer’ or ‘Computer’ of Windows 8/RT because, some people keep accessing your personal files stored on any of your hard drive partitions? It’s possible now thanks to option provided by Microsoft in Windows 8/RT.
If, you want to hide any of your hard drive partitions on Windows 8/RT device then, you can follow the instructions below.
First of all, open up the Search charm by pressing ‘Windows key + F’ or swiping from right and then, selecting ‘Search’.
Your Search Charm will open. Here type ‘gpedit.msc’.
You would be showed ‘gpedit’ in results. Press it.
You would be taken to desktop where ‘Local Group Policy Editor’ will open.
Here navigate to the following path:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer
In File Explorer, you would see a lot of settings. Search for ‘Hide these specific drives in My Computer’ and open it.
A pop-up window will open. Here select ‘Enabled’ from top left corner and then, select the hard drives you want to hide from ‘Computer’.
Once you have selected your desired ones, press ‘Ok’.
Now, go to the ‘Computer’ and the partition you selected won’t be showing there.
Note: The above trick hides the partitions from Computer but, it can still be accessible side navigation pane, from command prompt and many other locations. But, if you want to restrict access to hard drive partitions then, you may follow the instructions found here.
